It is unfortunate that there is so little guidance in this regard, and the information on the internet and in the codex makes for some pretty hard reading. The plugin is a nice starting point I think, but is only worth a 3 star rating because it is so difficult to actually use. A few examples of how to use the fields on the front end would make it worth 4 or 5 stars.
