• I just posted an entry on my new blog laughing at my first entry being spammed already, only to see a spam comment show up on the new entry almost immediately 🙁
I’ll take steps to block the spammer, but what I’m curious about is why WP shows the comment as having been posted before the entry it’s commenting… if you see what I mean. (And if you don’t, take a look: http://www.holoweb.net/~laurie/index.php?p=5#comments)
    How did that happen?

  • Most odd … perhaps you type noisily ? 🙂
Grab a load of anti-spam stuff:
    http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/spam/
Note: The Blacklist URL there is wrong as it has been updated. Head over to Fahim’s site to get the new one.
(I’ll update the url in the morning)

Thanks for the anti-spam link, that’s bound to come in handy 🙂 I’ll keep watching for comments turning up unexpectedly or with odd post times. Hopefully it wont prove to be a recurring problem…

Ah, now I understand how comments are showing up with timestamps earlier than the post they comment: they were submitted before the post was. Why is WP accepting comments on posts that don’t exist? Isn’t that a bug? If those comments had been disallowed, I wouldn’t now be manually deleting them again 🙁 Still, it gives me an incentive to get that anti-spam stuff set up! Thanks again for that link Podz.
