The author field becomes empty when a scheduled post gets published.

I think that the author of the scheduled post should be the author of the published post.

This is already the todo list for one of the next releases.
I can’t really give you an ETA when this will happen since this whole plugin is just a side project I maintain as part of my work.

But you are very welcome to open a pull request on our github project https://github.com/tao-software/tao-schedule-update
