How to Include 404.php into my template

    Greetings. I’ve picked a theme/template that has no 404.php page. So, I created one – I basically copied and renamed the existing index.php page to a 404.php page .. I “get” header, then add my 404 stuff, then “get” sidebar and “get” footer. From info in this support and Codex, I though wordpress is supposed to automatically detect 404.php files?
