What I think is best may differ from what you think is best. You’re best off finding out for yourself: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Plugins/Mail
But if you really want to know my opinion, this is the one I use: http://chip.cuccio.us/projects/contact-form-ii/
I’m currently trying out the Dagon Design Form Mailer. The reason I selected it from the ones on the Codex was that it has been updated recently, is made for WP2, and seems to be in active development, and also it claims to focus on good security measures.
I’m interested in hearing what’s working for other folks.
I agree with dgold for the same reasons listed. Additionally, it can be used in multiple roles and different locations.

That’s what I used to use, but I’ve since switched to the one I linked to. It’s based on the the one you linked to, but it’s improved a lot IMO.
Thanks Viper – I’ll give it a go.
I think I might have to agree with viper. However, the Dagon Design one doesn’t work on my damn host (nearlyfreespeech.net) because their PHP is in safe mode..ugh. Any workarounds? Viper, does your contact form work with PHP in safe mode? Thanks.
Most contact forms are similar because they were hacked from the same original code. I tried all those, but they did not work for me. Don’t know why. Finally I tried PXS Mail and it worked fine. Only one file, not 3 like the others. It may not be perfect for the big sites, but perfect for my simple little site.

I also recently learned about the Dagon form mailer and am quite enthusiastic about that one.
The Dagon Design form mailer has recently been updated, and it is the most functional and secure one available.
Great support too!
