Lost all super-admin rights
-
I truly appreciate your time and efforts more than you could ever know. This site will be vital to many people. Thank you in advance for your help.
Problem:
I read an article about how to harden WordPress after install.
One thing it said to do to prevent hacking is to add another user, give them admin rights, then delete the first user. So, I added the second user with admin rights. Now, I can’t get rid of either user and I lost my super-admin rights on the first user! Both users now have only admin. rights. It seems there are no more super-admin rights (discussed below).Me:
My site URL is https://ReformStudentLoansNOW.org and my theme is Iconic One 3.6.1.
Just in case it could possibly affect the problem: I have Windows Vista, Microsoft w/ service-pack 2 updated, Chrome, Firefox, IE-9, and Namecheap is my web-host.Research:
I thought I had done an awful lot of research on how to start a site, WordPress, SEO, plug-ins, programs, themes, different scripts to fix problems or install features, security, etc. But I was not prepared for what am doing, apparently.I chose and installed what was said to be a USER-FRIENDLY site, Iconic One. The super-admin right is only ONE problem of several. My site is down, but that’s another story. Please have mercy on me! I have read and looked everywhere.
I did research, posted, got kicked off, researched, posted, got kicked off. I researched HOW to research and post, did some more searching, and am posting again. I have looked in the codex, WordPress forum, an internet forum, and Google.
I read somewhere in the WP forums that the users must have different emails for one to be deleted – well, they do have different emails entirely. That didn’t help.
I also found several posts loosely related, but no help.
Then, according to this related post

I should be able to fix it in my meta files. I googled meta and that’s not helping me find where it could be. The more I look, the more confused I get. There is no specific place for meta?I surfed around in my directory and found 3 php files on users. The only thing I discovered is that I now have 5 rights for users, with admin being the highest. There is no mention of super admin or meta at all in these 3 files.
As you read this, I am now taking youtube tutorials on programming. This is incredibly time-consuming and is not getting my advocacy mission accomplished.Result:
I really am at my wit’s end, because this is a simple mistake I have made and I cannot believe that someone could design a “user-friendly” program to let you take away your rights from yourself, without at least some kind of warning. I thought I would keep my super-admin, even though I gave them to the other user also. This needs to be de-bugged or a warning needs to be installed. And I need help.Result:
I am a user, not a programmer. But I am really trying and very motivated. The problem is probably simple to fix for someone who knows, I just know it has to be simple. I really have spent hours on this. If you could please help, I would be eternally grateful.Importance of site (NOT spam):
I am dedicated to a very serious mission and a deadline to help 38 million student loan borrowers influence a Senate Committee (HELP) to thoroughly and effectively reform a lengthy piece of legislation, the 1965 Higher Education Act, by Sept., 2014 and ALSO to deal with a number of bills that are pending. I need my website to work ASAP to inform, motivate, and effect changes that will greatly impact our economy. 1.1 trillion dollars of debt is in the balance, so far. I have been working on my research for almost a year now. Can you please help me fix my site so that I may press on before the bubble bursts? Please disregard the posts on my site – I messed the pages up, but that’s easy to fix.
Again, I truly appreciate your time and efforts. You are doing a public service by helping me get this site going. Thank you very much and God bless you.
