-
Newbie alert!
As you can see the site at http://www.southwarkcyclists.org.uk is down -some type of WordPress snafu.
Please check me that solution is to …
1) delete WordPress in control panel
2) reload WordPress
3) copy files ftp-ed from site to backup back to the host
4) restore the database also copied downAnd of course 5) Rebuild content lost since 1/10/2013 🙁
Thanks all

Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.
Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.
Hi and thanks – logs where? I can view the site in my FTP client just now – which folder should I look at?
Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.
OK – got there …. found the last 300 !
Last few are………….

Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
And check the permissions on the root domain’s index.php file. It should be 644 on most installs.
Most helpful – looks like from what is called “Fantastico de lux ” on the control panel at zen.co.uk where this site is hosted that I have to delete WordPress and the back end database and then re-install –
” The installation in the root directory of c7824035.myzen.co.uk and the MySQL database and MySQL user named c7824035_wrdp1 will be deleted.”
Is this what you had in mind?
No. Download a fresh copy of WordPress and upload the files & folders as suggested above using FTP.
OK – and current best up to date copy of WordPress is where please?
Looks like 3.6.1 from http://ww.wp.xz.cn/download/ ?
Correct.
Thanks – sorry – a bit more more clarification please?
1) You say ” except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files” -are these in the download of the new version of WordPress as I cannot see them
I can see wp-config-sample.php tho’
Also you say “And check the permissions on the root domain’s index.php file. It should be 644 on most installs. “
it is “777” on this install – is that a problem?
are these in the download of the new version of WordPress
No – they are specific to your site.
it is “777” on this install – is that a problem?
Yes. Switch it back to 644.
Thank you, esmi! Just followed your directions and ended a frustrating 24 hours of corrupted install on my daughter’s site. I’ve never been so happy to see a button turn blue . . . well, that might be a minor hyperbole.
Now I can finish the 10-min task I started yesterday and get busy on some slides for my #genesiswp talk at a Meetup in five hours.
I had said “you say ” except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files” -are these in the download of the new version of WordPress as I cannot see them but can see wp-config-sample.php tho’ ”
You asked “are these in the download of the new version of WordPress”
wp-config-sample.php is
wp-config.php & .htaccess files” are notAlso having copied across I’m now getting
“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes) in /data02/c7824035/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3247”
