I’ve set up several clients with WordPress blogs. Some of them are really going to town with uploads. Is anybody worried about the scalability(?) of a single uploads directory over time?
Is there perhaps another solution? Or is this not a big deal? Keep in mind, some users upload a lot of images.

Well on my own blog I am thinking of a separate directory. Presumably the upload function would need to be hacked. Monthly billing for bandwidth might discourage them 😉

wouldnt it be an issue when multiblog from single installation comes to wp?

There is a file manager hack out there that allows you to create new directories when you’re uploading files.

Sushubh: My main concern is what happens to performance when you get 1000 jpgs (each with a thumbnail) all at one level in a single directory. Surely it has to get sluggish.
theglobalguy: That file manager hack sounds great. Unfortunately, all of the links are dead. Do you know if it is still around?
