SWF isn’t an image file format. It’s Flash, so you won’t get it to work as a background at all. Just embed it and design around it. Look at the source code of the page you linked to for an idea of how to do it.

Does this mean I need a plug in to view the site. Or will any old standards comliant browser be enough?

Flash isn’t a standard. Firefox doesn’t ship with it.

The flash plugin is free, takes no time to d/l, and my copy of FF works fine with it.

Root…even if you don’t have the plugin you can still read the rest of the page…or at least you could with the html pre-wordpress version….will have wait and see if it works in the future. As SilverBlue said its not hard to get the plugin and use it anyway.

So this is not going to be built using web standards then? Supposing I am visually impaired?

Root, there are methods around that. Flash may not be a standard, but the object tag is. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. 😉

I always worry about any imminent departure from web standards 😉
