I am trying to help diagnose and/or fix a problem with an eShop installation. The eShop is pretty simple with only a few products for sale. It works fine and has worked fine for years.

Recently a customer was able to get all the way thru the check out process without having the shipping charges applied and included in the total at check out. The site owner had to pay for the shipping charges. This has never happened before and I am seeking advice on where I might look within the settings to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

  • Can you replicate the problem using the 2015 theme and no other active plugins?

Hi and thanks for your reply.

The site uses a third party Headway Theme.

I think the problem may have been due to having the max weight allowed field not filled out/empty. I have added a high value there and will see if that fixes things.

    Anything yet?

    Hi Esmi,

Thanks for following up. It is difficult because this has only happened once. I have gone thru the shipping settings/options and I think that the problem may have been that in the Shipping Zones section the Max Weight Allowed was set at Zero. I was able to fill out an order with enough quantity to exceed some (unknown or Zero?) threshold and the checkout showed Zero for shipping charges.

I am trying to get together with the site owner and get more complete info regarding the weight of the product and come up with a realistic Max Weight Allowed. Right now I set it at 300 which seems like plenty.

I am a bit unclear on why that Max Weight Allowed is even there but I’m sure it is needed by some. Any reason not to have it at 10,000?

Any reason not to have it at 10,000?

None that I can think of…

As there has not been an update to this topic for a while, I can only assume that the issue has now been resolved and I am now marking it as such. If this is incorrect, please feel free to change the topic’s status and/or post a follow-up.
