Sorry, not a proper answer but I don’t see the point in something like that on the plugin-level. Pictures that you upload are a resource that you have to decide what you are going to do with them.
As you say, any page in a wordpress blog can be password protected. And anyone who can upload a picture to website should be able to add [gallery=xy] to a password protected wordpress page.
I agree, wordpress offer already a password feature, so there is no need to redo it in my plugin
Hi,
First of all thanks for the great plugin. Second, I would like to say that I too would like to see an ablility within the gallery plugin itself to control access.
maierma, the point of something like this at a plugin level would be so that :
A. if you use Album not individual galleries so that you can have both private and public galleries in a single album
B. So that if you use permalinks on your site anyone just cannot guess the gallery number even if you are using the password protected pages.
As I said before it would be great to be able to see some sort of private/public gallery distinction built into the plugin itself using roles and/or passwords. I have a family site and I would like to keep galleries with pictures of my kids only visible to the people that I either give the password to or grant them access via a role. I’m sure many people would like to see some sort of security feature like that built into the plugin. If I’m completely missing the point can you explain how I can accomplist my goal using the built in WP page password protection?
I would like to have 1 album page with multiple galleries. I take many photos as I’m a semi-pro and I travel a lot. I have family visit the site that I would like to be able to give password to or otherwise be able to see galleries of my kids that I don’t want Joe public to see. I do want to share my travel and other art photos with everyone. Any ideas? If I create an album or two albums and password protect the kids album then unwanted viewers can just guess the album and gallery ids which are pretty low numbers (1-100) and get access that way can’t they?
Thanks,
K.
That’s true if you use the option “Deactivate gallery page link”, if you create for each gallery a page, then the gallery is protected for manual enterd url’s
Even if I uncheck that box, people can still figure out the actual link to the picture. It just isn’t secure.
Take a look at how drain hole plugin works. It does some kind of mapping thing so the actual link cannot be found.
