I’ve run into a problem when trying to upgrade from WP 2.5.1 to 2.6. I deactivated all my plugins and uploaded the new files per the upgrade instruction but when I try to run the upgrade script all get is a blank screen.

Anyone else run into this or have suggestion on who to finish the upgrade?

  • Having the same issue upgrading from 2.3.3.

Though I can pull up my wp-admin page. Though all i can do is enter my username and password. It won’t progress past that page.

Got it working… Not sure what I if anything I did differently but everything seems to be working now.

Really? Any possible tips on what you were playing with that might have done it?

Not a one, I can’t think of anything differently this this time… I followed exactly the same steps I had previously. I deactivated my plugins in 2.5.1, deleted the wp-includes and wp-admin directories, etc. per the upgrade instructions, uploaded the new files and ran upgrade script. The only difference this time was that instead of a blank screen the update script ran and updated the database.

Above fix did not do anything for me. I think my upgrade failed at some point along the way, and it failed to update the db_options row in the wp_options table.

Version 2.6 expects the value “8201” to skip the upgrade process, and after updating the value manually to “8201” my site started working again.

I wrote a small blog entry about the problem and the solution:
