Transfer WordPress Between Hosts After Host Changed

    I had a wordpress blog at Host A. I was not aware of the export function; I just saved the blog directory to my hard drive. I then switched the nameservers to Host B and installed wordpress there. However, all my posts are gone.

    Is there a way to make an export file from a local machine? Or does all the content live somewhere in a server?
    If so, is there any way for me to access the old site without having to change the nameservers?
    If not, whats the procedure.

    All the content lives in the SQL database on your server. If you still have access to, say, the IP of the old site, you might still be able to download the SQL that way.

    You could try asking Host A for a copy of your current SQL DB as well, if they’re cool peeps.

    Thanks Ipstenu. If I can get my hands on the SQL DB – would I then import that whole dB into the new site if able?

    In theory, yes, but there’s no promise that each host has the same version of SQL or the same set up, so it may require a lot of fiddling.

    There’s also the possibility of going, via direct IP, to the old site, changing the WP info to point to the IP instead of the server name, and exporting that way.
