• Hi,

Im new to envira and im just testing it out. So maybe i am missing it, but im missing some major, basic options:

    1. option to upload my pictures to a folder and let envira read the entire folder and its subfolders through the wp-admin.

I have about 5000 picture galleries in various categories. Each gallery has about 250-500 pictures. Its almost impossible to upload each gallery manually into envira through wp-admin, that would take years.

    2. I cant find a way to make the gallery settings standard. What i mean is that i have to go through all settings for each gallery/album i make. This is again totally ridiculous as it would take over a 100 years to complete all my galleries.

It would be very simple to just let you select a folder where all your galleries are uploaded and envira just reads them through php or whatever and auto rename name based on folder names or something like that.

I apologize upfront if this function is already there, but i alread read most of the forums, documentation but besides the “dynamic” addon i couldnt find any info about this.

    cheers

i have found the settings part πŸ™‚

now only missing a way to scan and rescan ftp folders

    Hi @bambino πŸ™‚

I’m happy to answer your questions. I’m going to list each one out so that I don’t miss anything.

    1. Envira uses WordPress standards for uploading images. So all images are located / stored in the WordPress media library (/uploads directory on your server). If you have previously used NexGen, NextGen uploads to it’s own directory and images are not located in the media library so Envira wouldn’t be able to see them through a standard gallery. If you were using the Dynamic Addon (available with the premium version of the plugin) you could dynamically create those galleries using a shortcode as shown in our docs page here.

    2. Yes, you can do this with the premium version of the plugin using the Defaults Addon. This addon lets you set a ‘standard’ set of settings, so each time you click Add New to create a new gallery, you can choose which gallery you should use as your ‘base’ settings.

I’m very sorry for any confusion, can I help with anything else? If you have a license for the plugin (premium version) you can log into your account and hit the support tab to request any specific questions or if you need anything else πŸ™‚

    Hi,

Thanks for all the info. I will give it some thought about buying the pro version. Too be honest im doubting a bit as, although its very user friendly, your plugin sucks as it comes to functions.

    Two more small questions:

    1. I see no way to mass edit the gallery settings besides the standard mass edit from the wordpress admin. This is extremely important as when you have 100+ or even 1000+ galleries and decide to, for example, change the show/hide of download button you have to manually edit each gallery.

    2. How can i add an album inside an album to make subalbums. I for example have an album named “cars”. In that album i want multiple subalbums like “blue cars,” “white cars,” and so on. I cant seem to find a way to do this.

    3. about my ftp question. Well i havent used nextgen before this. I understand that the envira images are stored in the wordpress library, which is totally fine. But i still dont see a way to upload images to those directories myself and let envira scan them.

As said if i want to create a gallery with 1000+ images, each around 1mb in size (this is needed for my work), then this a) would take me over 3 hours to upload and b) and will kill the upload process half of the time due to too many resources.

When i could just upload the images through ftp im done in 2 minutes, if envira would be able to scan and auto-import those images including filenames that would safe me a gazillion load of time.

I have to agree that your plugin looks really nice, and its easy to use. But when using it for long term projects, and big projects its far from useful so far

You could certainly use the Defaults Addon for this and perform a bulk edit following these docs. Would that help?

Currently we don’t support this, we do have a feature request in to allow this but there’s no guarantee that it would be implemented or added. I’m very sorry for any trouble or confusion there πŸ™‚

Yes, I can see how that would be a hinderance for you. Unfortunately Envira uses standard WordPress so there’s no way of Envira knowing about the image unless it was uploaded to the media library. However, I know there are some free plugins out there (I’ve not personally tried any though) that can import your images from those directories straight into WordPress Media Library. However, if these are strictly Nextgen you could use Envira’s NextGen Importer and depending on the size of the NextGen galleries Envira can automatically convert these NextGen galleries into Envira galleries. Another option as well is to use the Dynamic Addon and dynamically create those galleries based on their location. You can dynamically create any gallery from a folder of images inside your /wp-content directory on your server.

Can I help answer anything else for you today? Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can help! πŸ™‚

    Hi,

Many thanks for the well explanation and info. I will take a look at the default plugin, this indeed seems to be what i need.

One final question: is there a way (widget or shortcode) to show the latest added galleries on my frontpage? I have a ton of albums and i want to show the latest added galleries, lets call it a top 10, so people can go right to the album where the newest galleries are in.

ps. i will change my rating in the rating section due to the extra info you supplied me

Hi πŸ™‚ I apologize for the delay! πŸ™‚

I would say (normally) you could create a dynamic album to show all Envira galleries and limit the number to 10, however we currently have a bug report open with the developers as this is not rendering correctly.

I could certainly keep you posted when the fix is released so you could accomplish what you want in your widget area, would that help?
