• I have searched these forums and the net so much I’m blue in the face!

I did what this thread said with no luck.

    http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic.php?id=24576

I can track back to my own blog just fine. The request to track back goes into moderation and I can approve it. I have a friend with 1.5 and he can track back to himself but not to me.

This makes no sense to me at all!

Can someone please help me out! We are on the same web server. My wife has a blog on the same domain name as me and we can track back between her blog and mine just fine.

If somone outside of my site tries to track back it won’t work.

I don’t even know if I am doing it right when I write a post to begin with. I must be doing something correct since I can track back to myself.

    Please help me. πŸ™

  • did you check podz’s tamba trackback site to see if that site can trackback to yours?

I just tested it and he can ping to me just fine. He is running 1.2.2 and I am running 1.5 though.

Interesting. I had trackback problems with 1.2. I upgraded to a nightly build of 1.5 and the problem was solved. When 1.5 was released I upgraded to the official release. Now my trackbacks often don’t show up on the sights I’m trackbacking too.

Why can’t WordPress get trackbacks right?

There have been some fixes since 1.5 was released. You can get the updates through SVN.

“Now my trackbacks often don’t show up on the sights I’m trackbacking too”.
Does this mean they do sometimes appear? If they do, I would guess it’s something do to with your target sites.

They haven’t appeared since I upgraded to the official release. At all. So either they aren’t working or all of the target sites have the same problem in common.

I tried one recommended update of the functions.php file, but that doesn’t appear to have worked either.

I suppose I could download 1.5 and replace all the files and see if that works.

The SVN link does me little good. I’m not a developer. It’s all Greek to me. The only reason I downloaded a nightly build was out of desperation to have a blogging platform that actually does all the things it’s supposed to.

Then please be patient and way for the next release. I’ve heard that 1.5.1 is being worked on and will contain bug fixes for things that have been found since 1.5’s release.

That’s the same thing I heard when I had the same problems with 1.2.*

And it was fixed in a release of 1.2. Mine is working with the latest code in 1.5. This is open source software. There will be bugs. These bugs will get fixed, but it doesn’t happy like magic.

Well, it never worked for me in 1.2, despite all the fixes I tried. I moved to a different server environment, thinking that might be the problem. Still didn’t work. It was working in the gamma version of 1.5 I tried out before the official release.

Now, it’s not working in an entirely different way. Before I could send trackbacks but couldnt’ receive them. That wasn’t so bad because at least I could use HaloScan to bridge the gap. Now, I can receive trackbacks, but can’t send them. None of the sites I’ve tried to trackback since upgrading have shown them. I’ve even tried it with my old blog, which was always able to receive them. Nothing. And this time HaloScan can’t help me get the function I want. So, I have a blog that doesn’t “talk” to other blogs.

I guess I should have stuck with that installation rather than upgrading to the official release. I have an idea for the next release, though. An export function.

    I gave up.

There is a 1.5 blog for testing pings / tracks now at my site:
