 * Okay so I have two websites. My main company website on 123 Reg and my other
company website on WordPress. The WordPress one is obviously so much easier to
use. I used the WordPress app on 123 and changed the directory so it went from(
   example) [http://www.mywebsitename.com](http://www.mywebsitename.com) to [http://www.mywebsite.com/site](http://www.mywebsite.com/site)(
   my chosen word.)
 * The thing is I still want the website to be [http://www.mywebsite.com](http://www.mywebsite.com)
but I also want to edit it on WordPress. Can I have my cake and eat it?
 * I wanted to keep the original name as it sounds better without the /site and
because it is linked to all of our social media/work emails.
 * Also am I right in thinking that if I wanted to keep the [http://www.mywebsite.com/site](http://www.mywebsite.com/site)
I would have to rebuild the site from scratch as there is no way of transferring
all the data from the [http://www.mywebsiter.com](http://www.mywebsiter.com).
 * Any information would be most appreciated. Keep in kind I am an absolute novice
so please try make your replies idiot proof.

 * Yes, we can have the cake and eat it too.
 * **To transfer example.com to WP powered site**
    1. Good practice, save the whole current site using httrack.com and keep it somewhere
    2. In your current web/domain host, register a subdomain: dev.example.com
    3. Install WP in dev.example.com and develop the theme and put in content
    4. Once ready, delete everything in example.com
    5. Copy over everything (files/database) from dev.example.com to example.com
 * The 3rd step can be a local dev (in your computer using XAMPP, or similar software).
The last step is a little technical, we need to change domain and WP url in database,
there is a plugin for that. If the dev site is online, some webhosting company
can help with that, ask yours.
