What Version of WP are you using? I wasn’t able to do it without a plugin until 2.5
Hi, I’m now using the wp-youtube plugin, which is fantasic, embeds the player, allows change of color for the player and multiple profiles, higy recommended.

It’s so dumb. Don’t use the video or media buttons. Switch to code view, press save before switching to visual view again. Voila.

i use this code. it is valid.

drop in the appropriate “data” and “value” url and dial in the size.
I cannot embed youTube videos either. I pasted the code in the HTML view and when I hit save or update the code just disappears.
I found out how to do it.
1) Copy the url from the browser address
2) Click the upload video icon
3) Paste in the url for the youTube video
4) Give it a title
5) Click the insert into post button

I’m having the same problem. I was trying to make a video demo of how easy it is to embed a YouTube video with WordPress’ Add Video tool, but it just generated a text link.
I’m sure a plugin would work fine, but I’m trying to demo the “easy” way.
