 * I’ve been trying to figure out how I am getting a re-direct out of [http://ivyed.net/test-preparation](http://ivyed.net/test-preparation)
   to [http://ivyed.net/test-preparation/](http://ivyed.net/test-preparation/) adding
   the “/” at the end. An SEO firm has pointed out that they want to eliminate any
   redirects and since it happens for all my pages there are many. And looking at
   other sites with the same set up, a child theme of twentytwelve, it also occurs
   though I have added no code or redirect to the .htaccess file.
 * M permalink are structured with /%postname%/

 * That’s how WordPress operates, and it’s the right way to do it.
 * `/test-preparation/` is the canonical URL, so `/test-preparation` issues a 301
   redirect to that as `/test-preparation/`
 * Google and every other major search engine is smart enough to know what a 301
   permanent redirect means, it means pay no attention to `/test-preparation` and
   instead index `/test-preparation/` It doesn’t mean anything negative whatsoever.
 * On the other hand, the alternative would be to allow both `/test-preparation/`*
   and* `/test-preparation` to coexist, which every major search engine will see
   as duplicate content and heavily penalize you.
 * I strongly recommend re-evaluating any other advice this “SEO firm” has given
   you.

 * James I can not tell you how much I appreciate your response. I have not felt
   good about many things that I was being given by this firm and and getting this
   solid information from some one I have seen and trusted on the wordpress.org
   boards is just fantastic.
 * Thank you for taking the time to respond in a thorough and concise manner.
