This may be a possibility: http://fortes.com/projects/wordpress/postlevels
“Post Levels is a WordPress plugin which allows you to restrict access to posts based upon the user level.”
That is pretty cool. Still I need users to be in groups not admin levels. I really don’t want to write a whole new plugin unless there is absolutly nothing else out there.
Thanks.

Any further news on this?
WordPress doesn’t provide any kind of user-grouping. If you want to restrict certain groups of users to certain categories, you’re going to have to write a plugin.
I want this too… or maybe just the ability to give certain permissions/restrict viewing of certain areas of the wordpress to certain user levels (1-10). After all, what good are those user levels if we’ve got only admins and editors?
any news on this ? I’m looking for something to manage user groups rather than levels too. thanks.
still no news on this, this is much more practical than just predefined roles.
I concur. I downloaded the rolemanager and was able to install that. It does allow for picking and choosing for individual levels. However, it does not allow picking and choosing for groups among the levels.
BTW, installing the limit+categories gave me blank categories on managing categories and a blank page in the writing posts page.
I’ll keep up with this development. I would appreciate it if you can devise this plugin.
Thanks.
