I should see a style sheet, but it gives a 500 error.
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Hmmm…I loaded classic 1.5 and it does the same thing. Guess I need to contact my hosting company?
Could be an .htaccess issue, or something that got changed on the server. It might not hurt to inquire and see if your hosting service received any similar feedback from any of their other accounts. I know it seems like a lot of info, but browse through some of the hits in this Google search, and see of anything in those situations rings any bells. At the very least, it might provide some ideas.
Thanks! Hosting company said it was because of improper file permissions, which they fixed but it still isn’t working. So frustrating. This is exactly why I put off fixing it for so long!

Yet I don’t see a redirect when I request your blog address.
All of the 500 errors seem to occur when a request is made to the wp-content/themes/ directory
everything else I saw appears to be a 200 except for one 404 on a missing image
“The requested URL /wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif was not found on this server.”
I’m afraid that’s all I can see. Maybe there is a clue in there somewhere. Good luck to you!
Yay! It was the .htaccess file! I have themes again! Thank you so much!
Hey! I just forced a browser refresh and your site is back! It looks like they fixed it!
Ctrl+F5 or just clear your browser cache and try again.
hi,
i think i have the same problem
what changes exactly were necessary to permissions and your htaccess file?
thanks
Hey, I have just started out using wordpress and have hit a snag. I have clicked on “Visit Site” but all it opens up to is the index file structure, not the blog with the theme. I have installed and activated themes, the default ones and a theme I uploaded, but yet the theme blog still won’t show. I am getting really over this, about time to throw in the towel as it is wasting my MF time…..
Cheers, any help is awesome, I need it.
