# 403 error after changing Permalink settings

 * Not a good day.
 * Earlier, I tried to change my permalink settings through the appropriate tag.
   On saving the new settings, I have lost all access to my blog, including the 
   admin. Can I revert this through FTP?

 * PS: If I delete .htaccess, I regain access to the site. Bus as soon as try to
   set the permalink settings back to default, I lose access and a new .htaccess
   is created.

 * So, I solved this by choosing a backup of data from the host server and then 
   reconstructing what I had done in between (2 hours of work). Which means I am
   now back on default settings. I don’t think I can log it as solved.
 * I am happy to be back to normal functionality, but I would still like to change
   the permalink settings from default without losing access to my blog, as post
   number is hardly the most attractive option for viewers.
 * Does anyone know how I can change permalink settings without losing my blog?
 * (I am also slightly concerned that I might communicate badly – I get next to 
   no replies on this forum – am I doing something wrong?).
