# 403 Error Code API

 * Hi I have Lifter setup with Thrivecart and when people move through my checkout
   they don’t get added as students into lifter. There is a 403 error ‘you are not
   allowed to list students’ and ‘you are not allowed to create new students’. I
   have the api permissions set at read/write and both keys are correct. Not sure
   what to do next to troubleshoot this.

 * Are you sure your host allows “Basic Authentication”? According to the API reference,
   the Basic Authentication is the preferred authentication method: [https://developer.lifterlms.com/rest-api/#section/Authentication/Basic-Authentication](https://developer.lifterlms.com/rest-api/#section/Authentication/Basic-Authentication)
