# 404 Error while using permalinks

 * I am getting 404 Not found error while enabling permalinks on my wordpress webapp.
 * I am using digital ocean to host my application.
 * Below is the error page message I am getting:
    The requested URL was not found
   on this server.
 * Apache/2.4.29 (Ubuntu) Server at Port 80

 * You can check to see if your mod_rewrite is enabled on your server.
    You can 
   talk to your host, or upload a file into your root with this : <?php phpinfo();?
   > and check the php settings.
 * Or, perhaps backup your htaccess file, and upload the default one :
    [https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/#basic-wp](https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/#basic-wp)
 * Start with that.
