    HI,

I have noticed recently that my firewall (wordfence) in wordpresss is blocking a lot of visitors due to too many page not found error 404.

After digging with Wordfence support, we have found, that the issue is caused by a problem with images, specifically with favicon.

    See screenshot here
    https://ibb.co/C0yyXQ2

Specifically the favicon image is called Site Logo 512px.png.

It seems that when I upload it, IMAGIFY is trying to optimize it and WordPress (or IMAGIFY) is creating various cropped versions of this image. After that many of these are not found on on server (i have looked via FTP).

SO I tried to delete the image file and upload it again.
But here instead of a single upload, the system automatically creates a duplicate to the Site Logo 512px.png file called cropped-Site-Logo-512px.png and tries to optimize both files.

Even though I have selected the Site Logo 512px.png file to be the favicon, the system still attaches the cropped version of the file for some reason. This is creating many duplicates in my media library.

And the worst part is, that every time I try to select the original Site Logo 512px.png file, it automatically creates another duplicate in the media library. So there can be many copies of the same file for no reason

I understand, that WP is creating various cropped versions of images, but these "sub-versions" are never supposed to be displayed in the library.

So far it seems that this is happening while IMAGIFY is active.

Sometimes i have hundreds of 404s from various visitors who do not get the favicon displayed properly.

    Kind regards
    Michal

    Hello,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Imagify will only send requests for the optimization from its own server with IP: 46.30.212.107. Imagify does optimize various thumbnail sizes created by WordPress or themes but cannot create them.

Can you try deactivating Imagify and see if it makes any difference? Also, I would suggest running troubleshooting by deactivating all other plugins and theme and keeping Imagify active to see if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes.

Ok. I understand. What I have noticed additionally, when I set the favicon via Elementor site settings, then it starts to work at least partially and some of the cropped image missing errors dissapear. But when I try it via the wordpress customizer (theme) it does not work and only create duplicates. So it might be an issue either with Elementor or the theme.

    Thank you for checking though.

    kind regards
