I am trying to get the WordPress plugin to connect. It appears to have been connected at some point, as I gained a follower within the past week. I am getting the “Error connecting to Mailchimp: 503 Service Unavailable” message for the plugin. I have the correct API key and my MailChimp account detects the code on in my header.

I have PHP version 5.6.40 which is the highest they offered at this rate. I am running WordPress 5.1.1. I switched to a Dedicated IP address yesterday, so maybe I need a new API key?

I contacted Bluehost support and asked the question suggested on the “Solving Connectivity Issues” and they indicated that the connection should be working and they had installed CURL etc.

    Thanks for any help! Best,

    Emily

    Hey Emily,

An issue like this is caused when MailChimp’s firewall blocks the IP of your server. To be honest, you can contact MailChimp and BlueHost but you would end up going in circles with their replies.

I would suggest first creating a new API key and if that does not work, then just wait for a day or 2 and check again. The last option would be to change the IP again or to move to a different web host.
