 * Dear developers of WordPress.
 * I love WP. I thank you for making it.
 * The first CMS that I learned about 5 years ago, was Drupal, because it had what
   I needed at the time:
 * 1) Custom content
    2) Custom fields 3) A menu driven query builder called Views
 * You may of course already be aware that these are part of Drupal 🙂
 * Views is an incredible piece of software. IMHO it sets Drupal apart from many
   other CMS’s. Views is complex and elegant. Without Views, Drupal would be a much
   less significant cms.
 * Drupal Gardens (Drupal SAAS) did not get much interest until Acquia added a basics
   Views.
 * Views is going into core of Drupal 8 it seems.
 * Then I started to dislike Drupal in many other ways.
 * And I noticed a while back that WP has custom content and custom fields, either
   thru code or plugins. Wonderful.
 * I did not see a Views equivalent, but again I disliked Drupal so much that I
   taught myself how to use wp_query. I can now make simple custom queries no problemo.
 * It was wonderful to move away from Drupal. It is wonderful to use WP in so many
   ways.
 * But it would be more wonderful if WP had a good Views equivalent.
 * So this is my feature request:
 * Could you develop a Views equivalent?
 * Or could you please help the development of a plugin, if you are not already
   doing so?
 * Much like Views was developed by a third party developer and not the Drupal core
   team, there are developers building a Views equivalent plugin (as you may be
   aware already of course):
 * [http://wordpress.org/plugins/query-wrangler/](http://wordpress.org/plugins/query-wrangler/)
 * I really applaud the work that these developers are doing. IMHO they are making
   something that does or will make a huge contribution to WP.
 * Maybe you could consider helping the integration of this plugin with WP?
 * I have not tried the plugin recently and it may already be really good. But building
   a Views equivalent is a grand goal, it is not trivial software.
 * Thank you for your consideration.

 * Dear mods,
 * I thought I posted this in a feature request forum but not I see it is in the
   Installation forum.
 * Not sure how that happened but could you please move it to the appropriate forum?

 * There is a paid alternative to Query Wrangler [http://wp-types.com/home/views-create-elegant-displays-for-your-content/](http://wp-types.com/home/views-create-elegant-displays-for-your-content/).
   It would be useful to have a comparison. I have not yet bought I licence for
   that so cannot yet offer any insight. Query Wrangler is good, and the maintainer
   has been good at responding to bug reports for the beta version.

 * @ John_W_B
 * I’d like to keep the focus of this topic on a request for WP to support a free
   plugin or develop a Views like equivalent as part of core.
 * If you’d like to discuss paid options or make comparisons please start a new
   topic.

 * i am in your situation (coming from other “big” CMS with Views like core modules)
 * i think that this new WP core project [http://make.wordpress.org/core/tag/metamorphosis/](http://make.wordpress.org/core/tag/metamorphosis/)

   is the basis for a native Views plugin.
 * i’m happily following it

 * PS: now i’ using [http://pods.io](http://pods.io) (free and on GitHub), with
   a fresh new Views module coming soon (it’ll be called Pods Frontier)
 * anyway their authors are active in the metamorphosis team.. so something really
   good will come in next months!
