 * I have set anonymous event submission, but the only way I can get access to the
   form is by logging in. What am I missing?
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Faccess-unauthorized%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * In addition to allowing anonymous event submission, you also need to set the
   default user for anonymous event submission and that user must have a role with
   permission to submit events.

 * You can set the user role capabilities by going to Event > Settings and then
   select User Capabilities in the General tab.

 * Thanks for the prompt response. It’s much appreciated.
 * However, there is no ‘submit events’ option in the user roles. If I use the ‘
   publish events’ option the event is published without being held for approval.
 * I must be missing something else?

 * Give them permission to “Edit Events” this will give them permission to submit
   events.

 * Tried that, but the event is published without being held for approval.

 * Just give permission to Edit Events but don’t give permission to Publish Events.

 * That’s what I did.
 * I’ve just noticed a role called ‘pending’ ,so I have changed the user’s role
   to that with ‘edit_events’ permitted. I shall try that.

 * And Test 7, without permissions! I keep clearing LS cache with ‘purge all’.

 * My apologies. I have remained logged in for most of these tests.
 * Having logged out, I am now at the beginning of this thread again, with ‘Access
   unauthorized’.
 * I’ll get my coat.

 * I created a new user called Anonymous and gave them the Contributor role. When
   I created an event in an Incognito window it was not published but remained in
   the Pending state:

 * Here are the permissions for contributor:

 * Finally, a result!

 * No permissions given. And for the first time, I was asked for my name and email
   address. I had thought about that, all along.
 * Thanks for your company Jon.

 * Just to be clear, I gave my anonymous user the subscriber role and didn’t grant
   any permissions.
 * It just worked. Let’s hope it continues to do so.
