# accessibility error

 * Hi there,
 * I have recently updated my website from an older theme to a FSE theme (Twenty-
   Twentyfour). One of the reasons was that TT4 should provide full accessibility
   support for people with disabilities. The European Accessibility Act will become
   legally binding in Germany as of June 28th, 2025.
 * I have now 2 problems with QEM in regards to accessibility:
 * 1. I have checked my website with the [WAVE tool](https://wave.webaim.org/) and
   it reports one error, namely the QEM event list in the sidebar produces four
   empty links (one for each event). You can easily reproduce this by inputting
   my website address into the WAVE tool and have a look at the results.
 * In the QEM settings, tab Display, I have checked the “Remove link from event
   title and event image”, so there should be no links in the event list at all.
   But there seems to be still some links…
 * 2. The event title in the event list has heading level h2 and this cannot be
   changed. With my website structure, this should be h3, because the header above
   the event list “TERMINE” is h2. Is there a possibility to change the heading
   level for the event title in the event list to h3 (similar to the QEM setting
   in tab calendar, where you can set the header level for month and date header,
   but a custom CSS would be ok as well)
 * The first issue is severe (in terms of accessibility), because it is classified
   as error. The second one is just a warning.
 * Can you please have a look into it?
 * Thanks in advance

 * Hi,
 * I can understand that people using the free version have a lower priority than
   paying users, and I have been very patient…but not a single reply in more than
   5 months?
 * You can forget about the heading structure problem (number 2 above). I am willing
   to resolve this myself by reorganizing the heading structure on my entire site.
 * But problem number 1 above is still there and I cannot resolve this myself, except
   looking for a replacement plugin with better accessibility implementation…
 * I am currently violating the European Accessibility Act and if I don’t get a
   response within another month, then QEM will be deinstalled.
 * Thanks

 * Thanks for your detailed message and for sticking with the plugin despite the
   delay.
 * We recently acquired Quick Event Manager from the original developer. At the
   moment, we are working through a backlog of issues that were inherited, including
   long-standing feature requests and general maintenance. Accessibility improvements
   are on the list but not something we can address right away.
 * Regarding the heading structure and empty links, these elements are often controlled
   or influenced by the active theme. Because of that, we believe theme-level changes
   are the more appropriate place to resolve issues like heading hierarchy or empty
   anchor tags. Plugin-side changes would risk breaking compatibility across too
   many use cases.
 * In the meantime, we recommend using a third-party accessibility solution such
   as [Userway.org](https://userway.org). It can help bridge compliance gaps without
   needing deep custom development.
 * Appreciate your understanding while we bring things up to speed. If accessibility
   is a hard requirement for your project at the moment, we understand if you need
   to explore other options in the short term.

 * Hi,
 * thanks for the answer. I agree that the heading structure can be fixed with the
   theme (and I have done that already), but I have no chance to fix the outcome
   of the shortcode
 * [qem posts=’4′]
 * with the theme.
 * I understand you cannot address this in the near future, so I will need a replacement
   plugin, because I cannot afford something like userway.org…
 * It’s ok if you set this to resolved, I have my answer

 * There is a free version of Userway.
 * [https://www.brightvessel.com/](https://www.brightvessel.com/)
   You can see the
   example on the left side icon on the link above. We use the free version ourselves.
   You just have to install the snippet.If you need help with that, let me know.

 * I have set this to resolved, because I have found a replacement plugin and I
   don’t need an answer any more
