# Accessing external IP address

 * I am a web developer and I have a new client, a law firm that have commissioned
   me to build a website for them, for safety reasons they host their websites themselves
   and do not allow direct access.
 * They have set everything up for me including WordPress and they have sent me 
   the following message to access the site,
 * “. We’ve got a fresh WP site set-up now. The IP address for your hostfile is 
   8x.1×9.xxx.xx1 [http://www.thedomainname.com&#8221](http://www.thedomainname.com&#8221);(
   i’ve changed the actual details)
 * I am not sure how to access the site, I am using a mac, I know it must be through
   some kind of text-editor (terminal?)
 * Can anybody help?

 * I’m afraid you will need to ask them about this. We cannot really advise on what
   is, after all, a private system.

 * I appreciate that but I am sure other web developers have had to use this method
   to access a site.
