ACF vs WordPress Custom Fields box in admin edit post

Hi, this plugin is awesome, thank you! Having a lot of fun creating custom field boxes to simplify posting. Previously was going to the stock WP Custom Fields box and entering a new custom field name and value each time.

After reading the FAQ and testing functionality after plugin deactivation, was pleased to see all custom field boxes still in place and all values still working on the front end. My question is related to where the data is stored…

I was expecting ACF to handle the task of adding the name/value to the database the same way I would do it manually, but on the edit post pages I cannot see the name and value in the WP custom Fields box after adding custom field data to a post via ACF box.
