Activity stream post when user registers

When a user registers using the standard method (without Social login), it posts on the buddypress activity stream something to the effect “John Smith registered 2 hours, 17 minutes ago”. When users register with social login, nothing is posted to the activity stream. Is there a way to make this plugin post to the activity stream when a new user registers?
