# Adding comments creates duplicate posts

 * The approval of readers’ comments seems to be making my blog generate duplicate
   posts. Does anyone know a solution for this?
 * Background: My new WordPress blog was working great until someone sent a comment
   on one of my older posts. This was the first comment I’ve received, and I approved
   it. When the comment showed up on the blog, however, the old posting had been
   copied to the top of the page. My “manage posts” page now shows TWO posts by
   that name — the original one, with no comments and the original December 2006
   date, AND the new copy of that post at the top of the page, with comments, plus
   today’s date.
 * Versions: I use WordPress 2.1.3, theme “Pride&prejudise 1.0” by Ekta Paneri and
   riginally created by Cissi Tsang. This theme supports Ajax Comments.
 * What I’ve tried:
    1. Looking at my blog in different browsers — IE and Opera — and the duplicate
       posting still shows up. So I don’t think it’s a browser issue.
    2. Turning off the only plug-in I am using, which is Autometa 0.8; this also did
       not help.
 * I don’t know enough about what I’m doing yet to try anything else without some
   advice. Any suggestions for fixing this? I don’t want to have to manually fix
   the duplication of posts every time someone sends a comment to my blog. Thanks!

 * this is something totally new!! 🙂 i have used pride&prejudice for quite sometime
   on my blog before releasing it in public.. anyways, let me try and give another
   comment there on some other post, and see whether thats re-posting itself or
   not.

 * Update: Ekta Paneria (who ROCKS) is helping me via a gtalk chat. I’ll post a
   resolution here once we’re done.

 * I’m looking forward to seeing that resolution. I cannot, for the life of me,
   even think of what to suggest.
 * Well, there’s the obvious I suppose: Does this still happen if you’re running
   the Default theme?

 * Resolution: The post that was presenting the problem was the first one. (I deleted
   the automatic “Hello world” post from my WordPress installation; this was the
   first one after that.) The post duplication didn’t happen with any other posting;
   we tested by trying comments on other posts to be sure. They worked fine.
 * I did do an upgrade of WordPress before this posting was even written, so maybe
   some glitch arose from that. Or maybe it was a transient error of some kind.
 * It’s fixed for now, though. The current cure was pretty simple:
    – Delete the
   original post of Dec. 6, 2006 – Edit the timestamp on the _duplicate_ post so
   that it now has the _original_ post’s date, and save; this moves it down to the
   original post’s place – So far, the blog is now working fine; go figure.
 * FYI!

 * Hi, HandySolo,
 * Hmm, I didn’t think to try using the default theme to test this issue. But if
   this glitch re-occurs, I’ll do just that and post a note here. 🙂
