Adding feeds on a page using shortcode
-
Hi, Allen-
I want to increase the number of feeds showing on this page:
http://www.tafaforum.com/tafamemberblogs/You fixed the problems I was having before and I am hesitant to change anything. This is the shortcode that you have for that page:
[wp_rss_multi_importer hdsize=”18px” hdweight=”500″ maximgwidth=”160″ floattype=”left” windowstyle=”2″ thisfeed=”3″ pinterest=”1″]
There are now 20 posts showing. And, in your shortcode settings, that is the maximum number allowed. Is there an easy way to increase it to 30? We have a long sidebar and I would like it to go down all the way to the bottom.

what your shortcode is saying is five me 3 items from each feed. if you want 30 items on a page you need to set the max on the page (in the admin for shortcode) to 30. Now, bear in mind how all this works by reading this:
http://www.allenweiss.com/faqs/how-does-the-number-of-entries-per-feed-and-page-or-fetch-work/
I’ve tried changing that setting and nothing happens… I had it set at 50.
Number of Entries per Feed 5
Number of Entries per Page of Output 50
Do you want pagination? yes
Number of Posts per Page for Pagination 20 (I would like it to be set at 30, but it looks like pagination overrides the other settings.)
exactly…that’s what it says in the admin panel…that pagination overrides the maximum,
http://www.screencast.com/t/RGRGlsXeh
and is set for a max of 20…if you want more, you can download this file which will allow you to set it to 30.
by the way, if this is working for you, could you please spend a moment a rate the plugin (under reviews)?
Hmmm… I copied and pasted it into the Options file, but nothing happened.
I will definitely give you a great review, but am still having issues with the thumbnails and had hoped that further updates would resolve them. There are posts where the images are not pulled (ex: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/oaxacaculture/PHeF/~3/5BzSSCHtmQ0/) and others where they are really blurry (ex: http://shetreadles.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-low-can-you-go.html).
These, again, are on http://www.tafaforum.com/tafamemberblogs/. There were also some that were not lined up properly, but it looks like this last update fixed that problem. I think you provide top rate technical assistance, although sometimes it’s hard for me to understand what the directives mean as I am not a coder.
I will explain what is happening with this tomorrow.
ok…download this file and use it on your server to fix the blurry images

as for your other issue, the feeds that arent’t showing aren’t showing because there is nothing there. Here is what you get for one of those feeds
http://www.screencast.com/t/qbLrnos3dnThe excerpt functions change fixed the images. They look much better.
Now, with the issue of images not showing, it doesn’t make sense to me.
Here is the feed url for one of them: http://oaxacaculture.com/2013/08/oaxaca-guelaguetza-2013-photographs-and-impressions/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+oaxacaculture%2FPHeF+%28Oaxaca+Cultural+Navigator+%3A++Norma+Hawthorne%29
When you click on that, the article has several images.
Here is the image url for one of them: http://oaxacaculture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Guela2013Leapers-9.jpgShe is using a wordpress site and uploading them, so why aren’t they showing in her feed?
She is on TypePad. The image url for that post: http://www.christinepredd.com/.a/6a00e008d20c4f883401901e89dc0b970b-580wi
Another one, also a wordpress site:

Image url: http://jwrobel.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Kathysbag-195×300.jpgAnother TypePad one:

Image url: http://www.juliaberkley.com/.a/6a0120a6a13d51970c0192ac3c6b55970d-500wiThis leads me to believe that it has something to do with the feed itself and not the “empty” content as no images come up for these sites consistently and they all have images in the posts.
I’ve entered the feeds on the feed the same way for all of them: just their blog address. Why would that work for most of them, but not for these few?
first of all, the feed you put in is not the RSS feed, it’s the URL of the web site. Put in the RSS feed. If there is nothing in the RSS feed, nothing will show on your site…It makes no difference how many images this person has on their site…it only depends on what is in the RSS feed.
Here are the addresses that I entered on the Feeds list for those sites:
http://www.juliaberkley.com/sticking_to_art/
http://www.christinepredd.com/
Aren’t they correct?
ok..now watch this video and you’ll a) see how to find the RSS url…now, using the web site’s url can sometimes work because the RSS reader uses autodiscovery (which means it can sometimes figure out the RSS feed url even if you put in the web site’s url).
Now, knowing what the RSS feed url is, I put it into firefox and then look at the description tag (which is where the content is) and there you will see that there is NO image in there…so the feed has no image – which is why your site will not show an image.
This is not a fault of the plugin – this is a simple matter that the feed does not include an image. If you want the feed to have an image – contact the blog.
OK, I’ve emailed those people and now it’s in their hands to investigate their feeds. At least, now I understand what is happening. Thanks, Allen!
“I will definitely give you a great review”…really?
Wow. That’s pretty sarcastic. Yes, I do have every intention of giving you a good review, but I don’t appreciate being pushed into it. I just had to re-install Windows and am having to deal with re-installing everything. I’ve had absolutely no time to look at how the plugin is working since I last posted here.
