adding media

I have just loaded up the blog, but when trying to add media, the loading bar stops at the end and an error log comes up saying

Unable to create directory /home/virtual/site11/fst/var/www/html/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Please someone help
