I’m looking to add multiple zip codes to a single listing. The idea is we’ve got a handful of sales reps who cover many US zip codes. Is it possible to add multiple to a single listing instead of creating a new listing for every zip code?

    Hi @ryanperkins

Thank you for reaching out about this. I’m Garret from the customer success team and I’ll be happy to help with this.

Unfortunately, we don’t allow multiple zip codes per listing at this time. This has been something we have considered adding in the future, but it’s not available today.

I do think this is a great suggestion and could benefit many others. I’ve made a note of this and we’ll keep it on our radar as we plan out our roadmap for the future.

If you have any questions or anything else I can help you with, please let me know!

    Hi @ryanperkins

I just wanted to update you on this and let you know that there is a workaround for this.

So, you can actually enter multiple zip codes into the zip code field to achieve this. You can see an example here: https://imgur.com/fg1dbQx

You can then search either zip code displayed in the listing and it will return that listing in the search results.

Feel free to try that out! If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let me know.

    Hi @garret1996

I’ve tried this using two zip codes in the field to test it. It won’t return the listing for either of the zip codes if multiple zip codes are entered and separated by commas like this. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Hi @ryanperkins

Thanks for getting back on this.

Are you able to share a link to your website so I can take a closer look?

I’ve only issued zip codes “76109” and “71360” to the listing I’ve created.

    Hi @ryanperkins

    Thanks for providing that!

Can you confirm that you have your zip code field selected for your zip search setting? You can find this by going to Directory > Settings > Listings > Searching. From here, you can find the zip code search options at the bottom of the page.

Make sure you have your zip code field selected for the Use this field for postal code/ZIP code information option as seen below.

Please check that and let me know!

    Hi @ryanperkins

    Thank you for that.

After getting more information on this, it seems that this doesn’t work with the zip code search box but only the default Search listings box. To enable that, you would need to go to Directory > Settings > Listings > Searching, then select your zip code field in the Quick search data section.

My apologies for that. As mentioned, we do plan on improving this functionality in the future.

    Hi @garret1996

Thanks for your help. I’ve got it working this way! Is there any way I can change the placeholder text at all? It’d be more intuitive for it to say “Search Zipcode” instead of “Search Listings”

    Appreciate the support!

    Hi @ryanperkins

    You’re very welcome!

As for changing the strings and messages, Business Directory uses the standard WordPress string externalization mechanism (PO files) to allow you to change strings and messages in the plugin.

The easiest way to go about this would probably be to use a plugin such as Loco Translate to change these strings/messages.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let me know.

    Best,
