We have a need to align our use of extra wordpress roles and itthinx groups plugin. We have roles be use in our sidebar menu and groups being used in wordpress users and pages. We need to continue to be able to access and edit roles as well as groups in wordpress users and wordpress pages (probably posts as well). Is there an extension or setting. I’m missing or another way to accomplish this alignment?

Otherwise, I am requesting a new feature of groups to implement the alignment by an option setting and changes to the respective pages (wordpress users and wordpress edit pages/posts) to return the role features and add the groups editing.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

If not, I am requesting a new feature of the itthinx groups plugin to implement an approach to the alignment by an option setting and changes to the respective pages (wordpress users profile and wordpress edit pages/posts) to return the wordpress role features and add the groups editing features instead of replacing wordpress roles.

Otherwise, a setting to allow wordpress roles to be managed exactly in alignment with itthinx groups would be a highly valuable solution as well.

    Hi,

You seem to confuse an aspect of Groups. It does not replace WordPress roles, these continue to work as usual.

For the part where you would like to synchronize user roles with corresponding groups, this plugin assigns newly registered users to groups named after the role(s) – it will create the groups if they don’t exist: https://github.com/itthinx/groups-role-registration

Note that it will not apply this to existing users, you would need to do this using the bulk features. It’s very easy though, please see the notes on bulk actions here: http://docs.itthinx.com/document/groups/memberships/

I would certainly recommend to review why you would want to have a direct mapping between roles and groups, in most cases I have seen, it wasn’t even necessary. Feel free to explain further.

    Cheers
