 * Hi,
 * Since November 29 I keep finding a few of my WordPress sites with all of their
   plugins disabled (except for one: “Manage WP – Worker”). Each time this happens,
   it seems that there’s an error at the top of the plugins page in WordPress that
   says:
 * `The plugin 1 has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.`
 * I’ve done some searches in Google to see if anyone else has experienced this,
   but so far I’ve only seen that people are showing a different error; one that
   actually contains a plugin name/php file instead of the number 1, like in my
   error.
 * Can you point me in any sort of direction to figure out what might be causing
   this? Could it be orphaned tables in the WordPress database? I can, by the way,
   with almost 100% certainty say that my site hasn’t been hacked; I’ve got an awesome
   security plugin called BulletProof Security Pro and also checked out my site
   with Sucuri’s free security/malware checker.
 * Thank you!

 * `Plugin file does not exist.`
 * That sure sounds like a file system problem. Are all of the sites you’re seeing
   this on on the same host? If so, contact tech support at your hosting company.

 * Thanks, Steve. Could you say any more about how this sounds like it is a file
   system problem? What exactly does that mean?
 * Yes, the sites this is occurring on are hosted together. I have contacted my
   hosting provider before, however, and was told that plugins can only be disabled
   manually by me or another webmaster of our sites, or by me or another webmaster
   changing something in the database, or due to a hack. I can definitely rule out
   each one of these possibilities. So, if I call my hosting provider again, I’d
   want to bring as much information as I could possibly have. Thank you for any
   more information you can provide.

 * @ JD – Do you have Go Daddy Managed WordPress hosting (special type of Go Daddy
   hosting that is not standard Go Daddy hosting). If so, there was an issue with
   Go Daddy Managed WordPress hosting not too long ago where they were having problems
   with upgrading MySQL, which was causing plugins to get deactivated: [https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/all-plugins-got-deactivated/](https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/all-plugins-got-deactivated/)
   I’m not sure if the issue is still currently occurring or not.

 * Hey! That’s is actually my post! This issue has now occurred on a total of 3
   of our GDMWP sites… Do you think this could still be MySQL upgrades? We have
   a total of 20 GDMWP sites and only 3 of them have ever shown this problem; and
   when it occurs, it doesn’t occur on all 3 of them at the same time either.

 * It’s a GoDaddy issue if files are disappearaing/reappearing or if the DB is flaking
   out.

 * Well here are the logical things to consider:
    On our host we have 10 websites
   under our hosting account that are hosted on 5 different host servers. Those
   10 websites are using 5 different MySQL servers. So if there was a problem with
   migrating or upgrading 1 MySQL server that 3 of your websites use then that would
   explain why only 3 websites were affected. You would have to ask GDMW support
   if they are still doing MySQL upgrades/migrations. Keep in mind that Server Administrators
   handle things like MySQL server upgrades/migrations and frontline techs may not
   be informed about those server changes.

 * I have actual experience with this scenario from both perspectives. ie frontline
   tech that eventually worked my way up to a Systems Engineer. 😉

 * Thanks [@sterndata](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sterndata/): Files aren’t
   disappearing/reappearing as far as I can tell. The plugins are just getting deactivated
   due to some error… but apparently, I’m the first ever person to encounter this
   exact error. I also don’t know if the DB is “flaking out”—I’m still just trying
   to explore what actually is happening.
 * [@aitpro](https://wordpress.org/support/users/aitpro/): Thanks for explaining
   that. This makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tips.

 * JD: This is not a WordPress error — Something Bad is happening on your host.
   It cannot find your plugin files from time to time.
