 * I need a user to be able to create posts and events but not have access to any
   settings, tools, users, etc. Just create posts.
 * I’ve tried copying the author role and the ONE setting i found that allows the
   user to create posts is “manage options” but that gives them access to most of
   the admin menu. Please help.

 * Hi [@zero20two](https://wordpress.org/support/users/zero20two/)
 * If you need this level of personal site support, please become a member at [http://publishpress.com](http://publishpress.com)
 * It might be best to start with the Contributor role, rather than Author. The
   Contributor role can only create Posts. They just have the edit_posts permission:

 * I started with the contributor as you suggested and I used the “Type Specific
   Capabilities” in order to use the “create_posts capability” and still nothing.
   I actually get a blank white page with a “-1” on it. Any ideas?

 * Did you also assign the create_posts capability to the Contributor role?
 * It sounds like you have some other plugin code imposing restrictions separate
   from CME. What Events plugin are you using?
 * Try temporarily deactivating as many other plugins as possible to isolate the
   issue.
