    I’ve created an Amazon recommendation ad via the plugin with this code <div id="amzn-assoc-ad-f3139996-0e96-43ac-91e3-fbd228012252"></div><script async src="//z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/onejs?MarketPlace=US&adInstanceId=f3139996-0e96-43ac-91e3-fbd228012252"></script>
    I added it to my side bar as a widget. It did not display. No Amazon ads are displaying in the content either. I cannot tell why.

    Adsense auto ads are displaying. But no Amazon ads.

  • Hi Richard,

    thanks for reaching out.

    Can you please test this code also without the plugin as a plain HTML widget to see if the ad code is working in general?

    You can also ensure using an image or dummy ad if the ad injection into your sidebar is working as expected.

    To learn more about placing ads in your sidebar, I also suggest this manual.

    Please let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,
    Henning

    No, it doesn’t display as a generic widget either. The only code I could get to display as a generic widget was the Amazon search ad code.

    I tried inserting the code as plain htlm and rich content-type Advanced Ads ads. Both failed. The dummy version did show dummy ads (grey boxes with the word “ads”). I cannot figure out how to display a screenshot here.

    I’m not sure why dummy displays and the other versions don’t.

    I am displaying Adsense ads using its auto ads code inserted into my Genesis theme. Could there be some sort of conflict?

    I also notice potential plugin conflicts with 3 I’m using, which are on yr list: Relevanssi, Facebook/PageFrog and Smush. Do you think they could be causing the problem?

    Hi Richard,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Testing the Amazon ad code without Advanced Ads confirms the issue must be with the code itself, instead of a combination of the code and the plugin.

    After checking your website, I was unable to find script errors related to this Amazon ad and the version of the code you posted above is present in the sidebar.

    Can you please try this version on a plain HTML widget without Advanced Ads as well?

    <div id="amzn-assoc-ad-f3139996-0e96-43ac-91e3-fbd228012252"></div><script async src="https://z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/onejs?MarketPlace=US&adInstanceId=f3139996-0e96-43ac-91e3-fbd228012252"></script>

    These Amazon widgets might also not track as much attention as awaited. Please have a look at this approach on affiliate marketing by our user Peer.

    Best regards,
    Henning

    I had already tried the html code with a Custom html widget and it didn’t display then either. I just tried it again and it didn’t display.

    But when I inserted an Amazon search ad as a customer html widget, it DID display. Not sure why one displayed and the other doesn’t.

    Also, the Dummy ad version did display as well. But not rich content or plain html.

    Hi Richard,

    Thanks for the reply.

    But when I inserted an Amazon search ad as a customer html widget, it DID display.

    If the scripts are working without Advanced Ads I am pretty sure we will get them integrated and managed using Advanced Ads as well. If the ad scripts are not working, I can only recommend testing different ad formats and reaching out to Amazon if you encounter further problems with their ad codes.

    Best regards,
    Henning

    Only one form of Amazon script worked: the search ad. The recommendation ad is the one I want to display, and which will not display.

    Hi Richard,

    I just tested an Amazon widget ad code like this

    <script type='text/javascript'>
    var amzn_wdgt={widget:'MyFavorites'};
    amzn_wdgt.tag='amawid0f-21';
    amzn_wdgt.columns='1';
    amzn_wdgt.rows='3';
    amzn_wdgt.title='all about chess';
    amzn_wdgt.width='250';
    amzn_wdgt.ASIN='0893817449,0500410607,050054199X,0500286426,0893818755,050054333X,0500543178,0945506562';
    amzn_wdgt.showImage='True';
    amzn_wdgt.showPrice='True';
    amzn_wdgt.showRating='True';
    amzn_wdgt.design='2';
    amzn_wdgt.colorTheme='Orange';
    amzn_wdgt.headerTextColor='#FFFFFF';
    amzn_wdgt.marketPlace='DE';
    </script>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://wms-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/20070822/DE/js/AmazonWidgets.js'>
    </script>

    Again I had to alter the scrips URL to https://wms-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/20070822/DE/js/AmazonWidgets.js but then this Amazon widget displayed right away on my test page.

    Please create your widget ad code, put it into a text and code ad unit and use the Advanced Ads widget to directly assign it on your sidebar. Please see this screenshot for reference.

    Best regards,
    Henning

    My script URL looks like this: It doesn’t have “http” or “https” at all:

    src="//z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/onejs?MarketPlace=US&adInstanceId=f3139996-0e96-43ac-91e3-fbd228012252"></script>

    I also tried adding an “https:” before the ‘//’ hashmarks in the URL. It didn’t change anything. No ad displayed.

    I decided to add a search ad, which did display before. So there is now an Amazon search ad displaying in my sidebar. Not what I really want. But better than no Amazon ads at all.

    Hi Richard,

    Thanks for the reply.

    I am sorry to read the Amazon ad codes does not work as expected. I can only recommend testing other widget codes as well and always ensure the code is working without Advanced Ads before placing it using the plugin to rule out possible conflicts with the ad code itself.

    Please also consider reading our tutorial about building your own affiliate links using Advanced Ads.

    If you have further questions regarding Advanced Ads, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me again.

    Best regards,
    Henning
