# API Key

 * I can’t seem to locate my api key. I have checked in my profile, and I find no
   indication whatsoever of an api key. Can someone please help. I would really 
   love to activate Akismet. All help is gladly appreciated.

 * Go to wordpress.com
    Log in Click on users The heading will say: Your Profile
   and Personal Options Immediately under that you will see: Your WordPress.com 
   API key is: (your API key here). Don’t share your API key, it’s like a password.

 * I do not see my API key either.
 * Immediately under the words “Your Profile and Personal Options” there is nothing
   there. However there IS a faint blue line that is under there. But no text. I’ve
   even tried highlighting the area to see if I saw something – but I did not.
 * I have the sections for Name, Contact Info, About Yourself, and Update Your Password,
   and then below that is a check for Personal Options.
 * Other than that nothing is there.

 * Oh I understand now. I have my OWN website which hosts my blog. So this plug-
   in apparently will not work with my blog.
 * I needed to create an account with wordpress.COM which I do not have. I only 
   have an account with wordpress.ORG so I can access the help forums.

 * No, it *will* work with your blog, but you must:
 * 1. Register at [http://wordpress.com](http://wordpress.com) for an account
 * 2. Locate the API Key on your wordpress.COM account under your User info.
 * The API key, once you have it, can be used anywhere. You don’t have to use the
   wp.COM blog you set up, but you do need to set one up to get a key.

 * I have a very unfortunate problem (not really a problem since I’ve solved it 
   indirectly). I can only access wordpress.com from an anonymous server, due to
   the Great Firewall of China from where I reside (Shanghai). When I tried to enter
   my password to access my wordpress.com account, it simply returns to the login
   page (like what happened with the referrer problems in wordpress).
 * It’s a good thing the e-mail sent to me for activation of account contains my
   API number, or else I’ll be pulling my hair!
