Hi @jordanwebdev,
Thank you for reaching out about the Merchant API migration!
I understand your concern about the upcoming changes Google has announced. The good news is that you don’t need to worry about any additional setup on your end. The Google for WooCommerce plugin handles the API integration automatically, and the plugin developers will ensure compatibility with the new Merchant API requirements as part of our regular updates.
The OAuth 2.0 authentication mentioned in Google’s developer documentation is primarily relevant for developers building custom integrations. Since you’re using the official Google for WooCommerce plugin, it manages all the API communication and authentication for you behind the scenes.
You should continue to use your Google Merchant account as normal. If any action is required from plugin users, the WooCommerce team will communicate that through plugin update notices or official announcements.
Hope this helps clarify things!
Hi @lovingbro
Thanks for the clarification, this was very helpful for me as well.
Just wondering,
1.is there any estimated timeline or confirmed date for when the Merchant API migration changes will be fully implemented in the plugin?
2. Will the API migration be handled in a way that prevents any duplicate products or feeds from being created during the transition? Anything we can do from our side?

Hi @jacklee0128,
Thanks for checking back on this, it makes sense to want clarity around timing and how the Merchant API migration will be handled, and I’m happy to share what we know so far.
There is already a pull request in progress that covers the Merchant API migration work for the Google for WooCommerce plugin. This means the changes are actively being implemented and tested by the dev team, and they will be shipped as part of a regular plugin update ahead of Google’s deadline. While there is no confirmed public timeline to share yet, the work itself is already underway.
From a merchant perspective, there is nothing you need to do at this stage. The plugin will handle the migration automatically. If a reconnection or any action is required, you will see a clear prompt inside your WordPress admin, so there is no need to manually reconfigure anything or prepare in advance.
In terms of duplicate products or feeds, the migration is designed to preserve existing connections and data. There is no expectation that duplicates will be created during the transition when using the official Google for WooCommerce plugin, and there are no preventative steps required on your side.
For now, the best approach is to keep the plugin up to date and keep an eye out for any in dashboard notices. We will make sure merchants are informed if anything changes or if action becomes necessary.
