New user to WordPress. Just started building site.

Began editing the homepage by going to dashboard->appearance->editor. I have saved the work and published it and it is visible online. However, if I go to dashboard->pages and click Homepage->edit there, I am shown just a blank default template homepage. From that editing page (showing the blank homepage), if I click preview, it shows the page I have created and not the blank page showing in the editor. But in order for me to edit the page I created, I have to go to dashboard->appearance->editor.

From the “pages” menu, I created an “about us” page and saved and published it. However, when selected from the navigation bar when viewing the site (the homepage I created), It just reverts/refreshes the homepage.

    Can someone please help?

  • There could be a number of reasons for this:

    1) Your theme may populate this “homepage” some other way and is not using the page’s content at all.

    2) You may be using a 3rd-party page builder plugin that may be doing something similar.

    … plus other possibilities.

What’s the address of your site so I may take a look? (Just the public address: never share any credentials.)

Thank you for the reply. I answered my own question. I will leave response for any other newbies that might make the mistake. Not knowing the program and also that that dashboard->appearance->editor is a new function is actually a site editor that designs a template that can be used throughout the entire site. Basically, the homepage I created was a template and since every page used that template – every page showed as the homepage. I believe I have it figured out now and see how to appropriately use the site editor.
