 * I would like to see future releases of WordPress output headers as application/
   xhtml+xml instead of text/html. This is the correct format for XHTML 1.1 documents.
   Notice that the beta version of the W3C validator now complains about it, as 
   it should.

 * Until IE supports that type, it’s just not going to happen. Even IE7 cannot display
   application/xhtml+xml MIME types. Firefox has no issues, although it’s pickier
   in that mode and most webpages would produce “not well formed” errors.
 * You’d get better results by asking for an option to allow you to set your own
   type.
