Arranging Sidebar and Content with CSS

    Hello, I’m working on my blog at http://blog.trevorcreech.com/
    I want to keep the layout simple, try to avoid absolute positioning and such…So I have the sidebar displayed first, followed by the content. The first post goes up beside the sidebar, but the rest are underneath it. I want the sidebar to extend all the way to the bottom of the page, with the posts beside it. Any suggestions?

    The hierarchy in the style is incorrect, you seem to be setting the menu to lie adjacent to the first item. What you need to do is start with the correct structure in mind and take a top-down approach.

    Make X the menu (sidebar first and ensure it runs alongside Y which is the story/contents part. Then, having done so properly, deal with Y in isolation. Also look at one of the pre-installed themes from Dave Shea. It is a similar design to yours, but the struture is more elegant. Use it as an example and hack away or merge with your design.

    Have a look at that template – it uses an image to produce what is called a ‘faux column’ which should do what you need.
    You could even use that theme and just move the column to the left ?
