 * Hello….
    I’m trying to install WordPress on my Win XP Home system. An error message
   that I get (not verbatim) is that my service provider (At&t Uverse) needs to
   enable Php. I called them and they said that they don’t support or use Php. Does
   that mean I can’t install WordPress on my system? Thank you. Dee

 * Your ISP has nothing to do with PHP on a server. Are you following these:

 * I guess I’m confused. I have limited experience with this stuff.
    When it states“
   Provider” does that mean web hosting company? Does the web hosting company need
   to enable Php? Thank you. Dee

 * Yes, provider means a [Web Hosting](http://wordpress.org/hosting/) company –
   i.e. where you pay for hosting a website. Most hosting companies have php enabled–
   it’s standard for web hosting.
 * You CAN install WP on your local computer (per the link above) but it won’t be
   viewable from anyplace except that computer.

 * Thank you for your explanation.
    Please forgive me for my ignorance…but I thought
   that one could use this program for more than just blogging and actually use
   it to design and create a web-site. And if that’s true, then how do I use it
   with my web hosting company? Don’t I have to install it on my own computer then
   publish it to web hosting company for others to view? Background: I only have
   experience using Yahoo’s Site Builder application, which I installed on my system.
   However, the reason that I’m looking to use WP is because I want to have a blog
   on my web site and Yahoo’s program doesn’t offer that. Thank you. Dee P.S. I
   might not respond back right away due to this holiday weekend, as I have other
   obligations to attend to. Please keep this topic open for me for when I do get
   back here. Thank you.

 * Yes, it’s designed to work on a web hosting server – your local computer install
   is not related to that – though you can move a site – but it’s easier to build
   it on the server it will be hosted on. You don’t need to install anything on
   your local computer to use WP if it’s on a live server – all the work would be
   done via a browser.
 * BTW, from what I have heard, Yahoo’s hosting does not work very well with WP –
   so you might consider finding a better hosting company.
