What are the settings in item 2 in email subscriptions?
Auto-login is checked.
First I tried to check wordpress login, that did not work. Then I checked bbpress login. That did not work either, the form simply did not show on any page with the shortcode.
I want to use the wordpress login, I do not need the bbpress login, my users are logged in via the plugin Members.

There is a login widget from Members om the front page. When logged in, users stay on the front page, I do not use a login page.
ok, looks like members is not letting wordpress login work – that is not a fault or criticism, just probably the way it works.
my suggestion would be to create a page and add the [bbp-login]. you don’t need to add the page to menus etc.
then use the bbpress setting and add the page in my plugin.
anyone using subscription links from emails will then route via this to the topic/reply.
for all other events, they will continue to use the one on the front page.
I tried that, users still get the 404 error when not logged in.
The short code does not seem to work. I suppose it should say ‘you are logged in’ – or something like that – on the page I made. But nothing shows.
hmm…suspect your theme or a plugin (probably members) is hijacking login and redirects.
