automatic database upgrade

    I’m just looking into an issue we had last year, we wanted to hide the ‘Redirection database needs upgrading’ nag from all users except the main admin, and send an email to admin so they can do the upgrade.

    However, it looks like there’s now an option to set it to upgrade automatically. This is great, but just wanted to check, are there any risks from automatic upgrading? Would it simply be potential disorientation if editors log in and the upgrade happens without them doing anything? Or would it be ‘silent’?

    If an automatic upgrade fails then it will switch to manual mode and you will be prompted the next time. The automatic upgrade is silent and has no prompts.
