# Automatic Update Failed – Admin panel 404 error

 * Hello Everyone!
 * Today i attempted to update wordpress via the auto update notification in admin
   panel but mid way it failed and went to a 404 page. i’m not sure what the last
   step it got to was, but all my content is up still. I get a 404 page when going
   to the wp-admin logon
 * Site is [http://www.lmc-seo.com](http://www.lmc-seo.com)
 * when i go to /wp-admin i get redirected to the 404 below.

 * When the auto update fails, it is best to go to wordpress.org and download the
   latest version.
 * Extract it to your computer
 * FTP to your web host account and pull down a copy of .htaccess
 * Upload the entire contents of the downloaded zip file including wp-admin and 
   wp-includes, and all of the files in the root folder once extracted.
 * DO NOT upload wp-content
 * If you upload wp-content it will overwrite your theme files and you do NOT want
   to do that.
 * Once all is uploaded go to your domain.com/ and the WP installer should start
   running.
 * Just follow the prompts.
