 * My web site is hosted by Hostinger. Their management tool is hpanel, not cpanel.
There is a setting under WordPress/Security/Automatic Updates Configuration which
allows the admin to enable or disable automatic updates for WordPress, themes
   and plug-ins.
 * The tool writes a PHP file which is supposed to enable (or disable) automatic
updates. However, it is writing the values in this file which DISABLE updates
when the admin tool is set to ENABLE.
 * I have reported this the Hostinger support and am waiting for them to verify
on their end and find a solution. Please reply if you have experienced this issue.
   Thank you.

 * Hello, I manage a site on Hostinger with the hpanel settings you mentioned enabled,
so this adds a must-use plugin (a file) from Hostinger that does disable automatic
core/theme/plugin updates, so the Hostinger system becomes the one responsible
for the automatic updates for the website (via hpanel). It is how Hostinger has
set up their WP hosting, so it is not an issue. Hope this helps.

 * Thanks for the info Gerry. The reason I became aware of this in the first place
was that my site health status gave a critical issue stating that automatic updates
were disabled. Also, every time there was an update released for WP/themes/plugins,
I got notified they were available, and had to manually run the updates. So it
would appear that Hostinger is not running the updates when enabled in hpanel.
I ended up manually updating the PHP file created by hpanel and changing the
setting to allow automatic updates. So far they appear to be functioning normally.

 * [@jimlz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jimlz/) Looks like that might do
the trick. In any case, do wait for a reply from Hostinger’s support folks to
see what they recommend. In any case, as a rule of thumb, it’s good practice
to keep plugins updated (and test any major updates in staging) to keep your
   site performant and stable.
 * If the problem persists, or if you run into troubles, do report back. Thanks
   once again!
