    Hi there,

It would be very useful if the media replacement could be done automatically as plugin’s option.
Is there any possibility to add this feature in future updates?

    Hi @eagleone1,

Can you please explain this further? The plugin gives you the ability to replace any files you want, but you must choose them, obviously. How would you want to do the replacement automatically?

    Thank you,

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply,

This feature could be a very useful when you upload many posts with the same thumbnail – Featured Image – using a program language such as Python in this case. Doing so, WordPress duplicates the images and then I have to replace them manually using your plugin. If you had the option to do it automatically from the beginning the task would be much easier.

    Thanks for the explanation, Eagleone1.

I believe there’s been some confusion here. When you upload an image, any image, even if it’s the same one, a new physical file is created. Neither WordPress nor Enable Media Replace is able to see the content of the image, or in other words, we don’t know if an image is a duplicate of another.

The easiest solution for you would be to simply use the image you already uploaded instead of re-uploading the same one, and this way, if you need to replace the image, you will only need to do it once 🙂

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi Sixaxis,

I agree with you, the easiest way is to use an existing image. However, when you want to do it automatically from a python code the only solution I found is to upload the same featured image every time upload a post and consequently WordPress save this image with a new name. If you know something more how to do it with python, please share it with me.

Before some years there was a plugin (overwrite uploads) which did the job automatically, but unfortunately this plugin does not work with PHP 7 and newer. Overwriting uploads is a very interesting and useful feature by any perspective. It would be very useful if you add it to your plugin.`

Thank you for your kind attention,

Ah, I didn’t think about this use-case, @eagleone1. It makes sense indeed.

We will have an internal discussion and see what we can do about it. Maybe we can include something for the next major release, but we can’t promise anything.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Believe me, your users will love this feature.

Thanks a lot for your attention and looking forward for plugin’s updates.
    Even without promises!

    Regards!
